MACON REMINDER

Don’t forget that this is the week for the Macon, Missouri exotic animal sale and the World Watusi Association Spring Fling.

The Spring Fling is on Wednesday evening, April 11, 2018 at 7:00 pm (we erroneously said 6:00 in previous posts) in the conference room of the Comfort Inn,  1817 North Missouri St.,  Macon, Missouri.  We will have a catered meal and our “Fun Auction” for fund raising.  Bring your donations and your checkbook.

The sale of cattle will be on Thursday April 12, there are a number of  very nice animals consigned.  Come early, stay late, bring your checkbook.  Representatives of the World Watusi Association will be on hand if you have any registration questions.

We will have a meeting of the Board of Director’s at 5:00 pm on Wednesday April 11 also at the Comfort Inn prior to the Spring Fling.  All members are, of course, welcome to attend.

Spring Fling Reminder

Just a quick reminder to all of our members and other Watusi enthusiasts.  The WWA will have its annual Spring Fling get-together on Wednesday evening, April 11, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the conference room of the Comfort Inn,  1817 North Missouri St.,  Macon, Missouri.  This is a great opportunity to share your stories, photos, brochures, animals for sale and such with others.  We will have a meal catered by Noland’s in Macon and will offer our Fun Auction fund raiser.

We will accept all donated items for our auction and usually receive many fun items such as skulls, artwork, food items, hot sauce, candy, local items from your home state, your imagination is your limit.  We often have African items and Watusi related materials.

Any questions of items that are of interest can be discussed.  Any suggestions to help our association run more favorably are welcome.

Watusi animals will be at auction on Thursday, April 12 so bring your checkbooks.  This year the WWA is offering a free membership to any first time buyer purchasing a registered animal at this sale.

WWA Spring Fling

Well we should all be home after our Macon adventure.  The WWA  had a good sale with a number of young animals sold, a few adults and and several nice to very nice steers.  Everyone had something to  choose from.    We will post some of the social media accounts and stories from our event.  Here are a few to start with:

From Rachael Moore this great photo and caption:

I love this photo of Jacob. Lakota (Moore) took it on my phone while in the WWA meeting at Comfort Inn in Macon Mo. here is why I love it... This is the face of a man who was awake and working for 36+ hours with no sleep and getting home to load up with me and Lakota and the trailer full of animals to drive 2 hours in pouring rain and heavy winds to make our wishes to attend the Lolli Brothers sale and WWA meeting a reality. This is the face of a man who would do anything for his family. After all that exhaustion and stress he is still here smiling and having a good time. So lucky to have him. #blessed

2016 ELECTION FOR WWA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS AND POTENTIAL MEMBERS

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE WORLD WATUSI ASSOCIATION IN GOOD STANDING – PLEASE READ:

As you know your Association operates a website located at www.watusi.org. We routinely post information, photos and such about the Association and watusi cattle. We are embarking on an exciting new upgrade to our site. When finished we will have available our complete ‘Herd Book’ of pedigree records online in a searchable format. This is where our membership enters the picture. Firstly we are offering to publish a membership list online. We want to recognize your input and privacy so we ask that all of you advise the office of your desire to be included or your wish to not be shown.

In the pedigrees the breeder will show, which will include name, city and state. We also have this same information available for current owner as shown on the certificate of registration. If you desire to have more contact information to be shown please indicate on the attached form and return to the office. All non-responses will be considered opt out decisions. The second item we need your assistance with is our photograph project. The registration certificates contain photographs of the animal, however, most of these are as calves. We would like to be able to link as many adult photographs as possible to these pedigrees.   If you would like to participate please send your photograph (s) to our office watusicattle@outlook.com. Please identify the animal in the photograph.

New Director

It is with regret that the Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of our Director Jeff Voss from Briley Farm in Oakland, Florida.  Jeff’s contributions to the Association with his tireless participation in our operations as well as his management of his herd of quality watusi cattle have greatly improved our Association.  Jeff is not leaving us or the cattle, but business interests are making it difficult for him to put as much time into this endeavor.  We want to thank him for everything he has done.

The Board has appointed for the balance of Jeff’s term Don Morgan from the CST Ranch in Keystone Heights, Florida.  Don can be reached by email at dmorgsupsi@aol.com, his phone number is 352-577-4149.  We want to welcome Don to the board and look forward to his vibrant participation.

Registration changes

The rules and regulations of the World Watusi Association have provided from the beginning that all animals registered must be permanently identified either by freeze brand, hot brand or ear tattoo.  As many display their animals the brands have not been used in many areas.  The Board of Directors has determined that the ear tatoo is too difficult to read in adult animals.  For these reasons it has been decided to remove the rule for permanent identification at this time.  Photos  delineating the markings on the hide and shape of horns are alternatives to these methods as well as a documented ear tag system.  It is the breeder’s responsibility to keep proper records of breedings, births and sales.  Some of our members have started DNA analysis of their livestock, which would solve any potential future disputes.  It is not a requirement at this time, but it is encouraged as a practice.
