Our losses of members and their people. Rest in peace.

Another sad loss….

I hate to be the bearer of sad news, but we have lost our beloved Dick Heiken of Heiken’s Ark in Des Moines, Iowa.  Dick and Kathy has been mainstays in our little association for longer than they would like to admit.  Their contribution to the breed and our association is unlimited.  Dick will be missed by anyone who ever met him.

Another member lost

From Angie Base:  February 16, 2016

We lost one of our WWA members Friday to cancer. Barbara Britton whose husband was Wayne until his passing a few years ago, lost her battle. She fought long and hard and kept her Watusi until the end. Others helped her feed and such, but she always said she wouldn’t part with them until she died. It was important to her, not only because she enjoyed them so much, but also because they had meant so much to her dear husband, Wayne. She promised him she would keep them in his honor and she kept her promises. Barb was a very dedicated and extremely hard working lady who even kept showing her Watusi at the shows when she had to do it all herself and then after Wayne passed. The last few years she had to stop traveling as her cancer was making it an impossibility for her, even with help from others and her family. She promoted the breed all through the years with dignity and conviction and we will miss her. A fond farewell.

RIP Joe Cocker

The World Watusi Association would like to express our condolences to the friends and family of the well known rock and roll artist Joe Cocker.  Those of us in our ‘twilight years’ knew Joe from his music and Woodstock from our teens, but more recently we at the WWA knew him and his wife Pam as lifetime members of the World Watusi Association.  Joe and Pam owned and operated the Mad Dog Ranch in Crawford, Nebraska.  The Mad Dog bloodlines and logo appear in much of the WWA lore.  Joe was 70 years old and had been battling cancer for some time.  He will be missed.

A Sad Goodbye

It is with a heavy heart that we announce to our membership that Don Zavislan has passed away. Don was instrumental in the promotion and breeding of Watusi cattle and of the World Watusi Association. His contribution to this breed will continue as long as Watusi cattle are registered and bred. Don was a good friend to the breed and many of the WWA members, he will be missed.

His family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Pueblo Zoo, 3455 Nuckolls Avenue, Pueblo, CO 81005.
