Get Well Wishes

Lolli Bros. Exotic Sale

Spring is one the way, or at least that is what they keep telling us.  Regardless of the weather the Spring Sale at Lolli Bros. Exotics in Macon Missouri will be held from April 10 through April 12, 2013.  Watusi cattle will sell on Thursday, April 11 after the buffalo sale in the morning.  Here is an opportunity to purchase a variety of animals and meet with other watusi enthusiasts.

The World Watusi Association has reserved room at the Pizza Hut, 2004 North Missouri Street, Macon, on the 10th of April from 6:30 p.m. on for the WWA Spring Social Get Together.  Although no formal meeting is planned watusi lovers will exchange their stories and information prior to the sale on Thursday morning.  We hope to see you all there.

Reminders

Hi everyone.  As we all look excitedly towards the change of seasons we should mark our calendars with our coming watusi events.

Watusi are sold at a number of different venues, including exotic animal sales all over the country.  The largest of these that usually carries the largest number of animals is the Lolli Bros Exotic Sale held in Macon, Missouri.  The Watusi will sell on Thursday, April 11, 2013.  Plan to attend early.  For more information go to http://lollibros.com/ExoticSales/tabid/55/Default.aspx.

Keep in mind that summer and fall will bring shows, such as the Kansas State Fair and Colorado State Fair.  It is never too early to start deciding who you want to show off.

Also remember that we elect 3 members to our Board of Directors each year.  If you are interested or know of someone else who might be interested in running, feel free to contact the office, our Secretary (Pam Jackson) or any board member for further information.

A Death in the Family

I regret to inform everyone that Princess Hillary has passed away.  She died Friday 1-11-12 at 18 years and 2 months old at my place in East Texas.  I’m sure most of you are familiar with this great cow as she has calves from Texas to Canada and in between.  From what I’ve learned in my short time dealing with Watusi, I think it’s safe to say she positively impacted the breed with great magnitude.  Her last calf born was a heifer calf and is currently happily eating hay in my pasture.  It was a sad day at the ranch and she will be missed.  Her loud unique bellow will only be heard on YouTube from now on.  I hope all is well and that you’re all having a great new year.

It Started In Africa #1

Watusi Ankole cattle used in ceremony

Tribesmen in Africa have a close relationship with their cattle.

The number of head and the quality of the animals defines social status in the tribe.  Herdsman spend a large percentage of their time with their livestock.

The World Watusi Association receives forwarded photographs from time to time from various members.  We will be posting a variety of those received that reflect the background in Africa of the Watusi Ankole cattle.  We do want to extend a special thank you to the hard work in collecting and forwarding these great items to all that send them in.  We have a particular thank you for Rodney Barnhart, Alex Geremia and Darol Dickinson for their contributions.

WWA New Corporation

The votes are all in and we are officially opening/merging a new Corporation for the WWA in the State of Delaware.  We have all voted on a few changes in the ByLaws and the Board of  Directors has been spending long hours overhauling the Rules and Regulations.  We will post it all up on this site when it is ready.  Meanwhile, let’s keep getting those calves registered and keep building this wonderful breed.

King Louis

King Louis was a large red bull sired by the famous Valentino of the Busch Gardens, Tampa Florida breeding program and out of the cow Fraulien who was an imported cow from the Frankfurt Zoo in Germany. Louis shows up many times in bloodlines of the World Watusi Association records. Although he was used on a few foundation pure cows he was ultimately used extensively on percentage animals by Liar’s Lake of Sparta, Missouri producing over 200 offspring.
